Lifestyle

I believe in consistency and routine because this has given me a solid foundation in my life. Many think that this is a boring way to live, but with discipline comes freedom. By having structure and good habits that are non negotiable, it creates peace in my life. Not only do these good habits keep me grounded and appreciative of what I have, but it allows me to sprinkle some magic into my life where it is needed. I reduce the chaos in my life and insert the magic moments as and when I choose.  Routine and consistency have taught to not be a slave to my impulses which in turn has given me greater control and autonomy over my own health both mentally and physically.

My life

MY DAY:

My weekday schedule being a teacher, can be both chaotic but structured at the same time. I have the benefit of staring and finishing at the same time and I have access to kitchen facilities. I wake up around half 6 in the morning, I go for a flat white and drive to work. I park around a mile or 2 from my work and I walk if the weather permits. This helps me clear my head and get some sunlight into my eyes and body. I get into work and I make myself some oats, protein and frozen berries. I begin the day with carbs as having a consistent slow release source of carbs throughout the day helps me manage stress and in turn my energy levels. This of course may not work for everyone but it sure works for me. I then have the same meal at break time around 10.30 and then at lunchtime I will have a baked potato with tuna and veg or salad. I then grab myself a protein bar after leaving work and walk back to the car where I set off on my journey to the gym.

EVENING:

I will train in the gym regardless of how I feel and then in the evening I will work with some clients where I PT them at rise in East Kilbride. I love being in the gym as I am surrounded by like minded people who support each other. It really is such a positive environment.  I then head home and cook my dinner. This is where I like to add some variety to my life by adding in some olive oil, red meat, fish or lean white meat such as chicken. I ensure I am creative with my veg sources here too. I enjoy rotating my dinners as it gives me the perfect blend of consistency and also variety. It also helps me balance my sources from a macro and micro nutrient standpoint. I then read a book or watch some trash tv before bed as this helps my overactive mind calm down.

WEEKENDS:

On weekends, I like to go for a long walk, watch a game of football or drive to a nice part of Scotland and see something I haven't seen before. Its not fancy. I am not really bothered about fancy nights out or 5 star restaurants although on special occasions it is nice to do this with friends and family. I am happy with the simple things in life and grateful for my health and my happiness. I don't need to spend a lot of money to make me happy, but of course I like to sprinkle in some luxuries from time to time to add variety and pleasure to my life. I am happy to have pleasure here and there so long as the majority of my life contains joy. I appreciate a night at the pub with the lads or a meal out with my beautiful girlfriend because it is a magic moment. It is not an expectation or a habit. And that is me. Simple guy with simple pleasures.

HOBBIES:

I still play football at the age of 40. I play on a Friday night in the over 35's league and it is a time where for 90 minutes I can forget everything and be in the moment. Just as I can when I am in the gym. I love to travel but oftentimes when I do, it will be to see the real parts of the country, immerse myself in the culture and take myself to places that are local and authentic. at the age of 30 I moved to Mexico City. I befriended normal local people. I avoided the luxurious bars and restaurants for the most parts and I drank tequila and danced salsa in the local barrios. I ate with family and friends and I learned to speak Spanish fluently. I am not saying I don't like doing glamorous things. I do love it if I can get an opportunity to appreciate something that costs a lot. But for me, the finest things in life can't be bought and most often are there for us all in every moment.
